20. Alcalfar - Cala Sant Esteve - Maó

The last section of the path departs from Cala Sant Esteve, turning up a slope and continuing along a country road which has magnificent views of Maó’s Port and La Mola fortress, built at the mouth of the port to defend it from enemy attacks. On the south side of the mouth of the port, in Cala Sant Esteve, is Fort Marlborough. This fort was built by the British in the early 18th century. The path continues past Sant Felip Castle and the town of Es Castell, until it reaches Maó, the capital of Minorca. Maó has a long history, evidence of which is visible in the diverse architectural styles used around the entire town. The path ends as it crosses the town, heading down into the port – which is considered the second largest natural harbor in Europe. This section ends at the end of the port, next to Vergers de Sant Joan.
